The Journal of Laboratory Physicians (JLP) is the official peer-reviewed publication of the Indian Association of Laboratory Physicians (IALP), a professional, academic, and non-profit organization established in 1990 to advance the practice and science of laboratory medicine. The journal serves as a platform for the dissemination of high-quality research and scholarly work that contributes to the advancement of diagnostic and laboratory sciences globally.
With rapid advancements in clinical care and biomedical research, diagnostic disciplines—including pathology, microbiology, immunology, clinical biochemistry, and radiology—have become central to patient management and precision medicine. The growing complexity of healthcare, including the increasing number of patients requiring life-support systems, immunocompromised individuals, and vulnerable populations such as preterm neonates and the elderly, has further expanded the role of laboratory diagnostics in clinical decision-making.
Recognizing the critical importance of laboratory medicine in modern healthcare, the Indian Association of Laboratory Physicians launched the Journal of Laboratory Physicians in 2009 as a biannual publication. Owing to the growth in submissions and its expanding academic footprint, the journal transitioned to a quarterly publication in 2017.
The journal publishes original contributions covering all aspects of biomedical research, diagnostic science, and laboratory education. Its scope encompasses a wide range of disciplines within laboratory medicine, including clinical biochemistry, clinical microbiology (bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology, and virology), clinical pathology (including surgical pathology, cytopathology, hematology, and chemical pathology), immunology and serology (including HIV/AIDS), human and animal genetics, endocrinology and hormone assays, applied biotechnology, nuclear medicine, molecular biology, and other related areas of diagnostic medicine.
The Journal of Laboratory Physicians publishes original research articles, systematic and narrative reviews, case reports, case discussions, novel laboratory methodologies, and letters to the editor. The journal primarily emphasizes original research and clinically relevant case-based observations that advance knowledge in diagnostic medicine.
All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure scientific integrity, methodological robustness, and clinical relevance. The journal is academically associated with institutions such as All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bhopal and collaborates with several professional bodies, including the Indian Pharmacological Society, reflecting its commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and high standards in biomedical publishing.
Through these efforts, the Journal of Laboratory Physicians aims to serve as a trusted platform for researchers, clinicians, and laboratory professionals dedicated to advancing the science and practice of diagnostic medicine.

Aims & Scope
Journal of Laboratory Physicians (JLP) is the official journal of The Indian Association of Laboratory Physicians (IALP), a professional, literary, non-commercial, organization founded in 1990. It aims to promote laboratory sciences in all hemispheres. With the tremendous advancements in clinical care and developments in science, diagnostic branches like pathology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry and radiology have come into the forefront in patient management. Globally, there has been an increase inpatient on life support systems, immunocompromised patients, preterm and geriatric patients, adding a new dimension to diagnostic medicine. Having this aim, the association started JLP in 2009, as a bi-annual journal. It became a quarterly publication in 2017.
The journal publishes original communications on all aspects of biomedical research and teaching in laboratory procedures contributing to the advancement of knowledge in all sub-specialties of diagnostic medicine. The scope of the journal allows publication of original research papers, review articles, recent and novel laboratory procedures, case reports, case discussions, and letters to the Editor on any aspect of diagnostic and laboratory medicine including clinical biochemistry, clinical microbiology(bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology, and virology),clinical pathology (including chemical pathology, surgical pathology, cytopathology, hematology), immunology/serology including HIV/AIDS, human and animal genetics, endocrinology and hormone assays, applied biotechnology, nuclear medicine, molecular biology and other related disciplines. The Journal of Laboratory Physicians (JLP) is also associated with AIIMS, Bhopal and prestigious associations like Indian Pharmacological Society etc. The journal focuses on original articles and case reports predominantly and follows a double-blinded peer review process.
Audience
Our audience includes laboratory physicians, treating physicians from all major specialties and researchers from the field of Pathology, Microbiology, Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Pharmacology and Molecular Medicine.
